At TBA, people development is central to our business strategy. As a global software and services provider to ports and terminals, we recognise that our ability to innovate, deliver and support mission-critical systems depends hugely on the quality, engagement and progression of our people.

Operating in an industry where digital transformation, automation and data-driven operations are accelerating rapidly, TBA has invested heavily in structured training, career development and knowledge sharing across all levels of the business. The result is a highly skilled, motivated and loyal workforce that delivers measurable value to customers operating in some of the world’s most demanding bulk shipping and cargo handling environments.

We are therefore delighted to be shortlisted for the ‘People Development’ category in this year’s IBJ Awards, the annual celebration of excellence, innovation, and achievement across the global maritime dry bulk shipping and cargo handling industry.

TBA has won several IBJ Awards over the past ten years in the ‘IT Solutions’ category, and last year we secured the ‘Innovative Technology’ award in collaboration with our long-standing customer, Peel Ports Group. For this year’s entry we decided to focus on the real source of TBA’s success - our people.

Alongside technical training in software engineering, automation and operational technologies, we invest in leadership development, project management, communication skills and customer engagement.

TBA also uses Insights Discovery personality profiling to help employees better understand communication styles, strengthen collaboration, and improve relationships across teams and with customers. These programmes have enhanced team cohesion, improved project communication and supported stronger leadership capability throughout the business.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that investment in people directly contributes to customer success,” said TBA’s Managing Director, Chris Hicks. “Our amazing teams enable TBA to deliver reliable, innovative software and automation systems to our customers.”

TBA’s commitment to training and development has created a culture where people are empowered to build meaningful careers, share expertise and drive innovation. By investing in its workforce today, TBA is helping shape the future of technology within the bulk shipping and cargo handling sector.
